Fine Arts

The Maquoketa High School Band program offers students the opportunity to perform in a variety of ensembles and events throughout the school year. In addition to the Concert Band, students will perform with the Cardinal Marching Band both at home and in competition venues. Additional performance opportunities include: All-State, Jazz Band, Pep Band, Solo and Ensemble, Honor Bands, and Pit Orchestra. The Cardinal Bands also offer opportunities for travel every four years as a part of the Maquoketa Music Department.

The Maquoketa Vocal Department offers students a wide variety of experiences within choral music. Besides having two Curricular Mixed Ensembles and weekly lessons, students may choose to participate in many other vocal activities such as Musical, All-State Auditions, OPUS, Solo/Ensemble Contest, Chamber Choir, Madrigal and Honor Choirs as well as solo-singing opportunities.

The Maquoketa High School Speech department offers a variety of options for those interested in the performing arts. There is a fall play each year in which students can get involved in acting, make-up, set design, stage management, lighting, and costuming. During the fall season we also prepare for Group and Individual competition as part of IHSAA in January and February. In the Spring, the Speech department partners with the choral department to stage a musical.
