Announcements October 22nd – 26th

Parent Teacher Conferences this week. Wednesday from 1-6. Thursday 1-8. Friday No School! Students will be dismissed at 12:30pm.  There will not be GST on Wednesday and Thursday.

 

Wrestlers: Open mats this week will be Monday and Tuesday at 3:45-4:45.  Come try it out! Wrestling meeting will be next Wednesday, Oct. 31st during GST.  Be sure to request Mr. Schott through FlexiSched. Body Fat Testing will be Friday, Nov. 2nd.  The Clothing Store will be open Wednesday Oct. 24th! Be sure to order, it will only be open for a week.   Season officially begins on November 12th!

 

CAGE Rehearsals: Talk to Krum or Althoff if you can’t make it!

Monday, Oct 22nd- All of Act 1 At OHNWARD at 6:30 to 8:30

Tuesday, Oct. 23rd- All of Act 1 at OHNWARD at 6:30-8:30

Wednesday and Thursday- No rehearsal because of conferences

Friday, Oct 26th- Act 2, Scene 1 @ 8am to 10:30am, location TBD

 

Dance team will be having tryouts for the ‘Home Performance’ season on Tuesday, October 30th from 4:30 -6:30. Home performance season is the team that will perform at home basketball games.

 

Iowa Central Community College will be in the Counseling Office on Mon Oct  22 at 9:45. A sign-up sheet is in the Counseling Office.

 

Western Illinois Univ will be in the Counseling Office on Tues Oct  23 at 9:45. A sign-up sheet is in the Counseling Office.

 

University of Iowa will be in the Counseling Office on Wed Oct 31 at 9:45.  A sign-up sheet is in the Counseling Office.

 

Iowa State Univ will be in the Counseling Office on Thurs Nov 1 at 9:45.  A sign-up sheet is in the Counseling Office.

 

Northeast Iowa Community College will be in the Counseling Office on Fri Nov 2 at 9:45.  A sign-up sheet is in the Counseling Office.

High School Bowling SIGN UP & PARENT MEETING will be on Wednesday, October 24th beginning at 7 PM at the Timber Center. Any questions, please call 563-652-5882.

 

Ohnward Fine Arts Center is hosting a Kids Only Variety Show on December 1st:  We are looking for acts from kids up to 18 years of age. Acts should be between 3 to 5 minutes in length and can consist of individuals or groups of any age.  Performers/acts do not need to be from Jackson County. We are looking for a true variety of acts which could include singers, dancers, musicians, comedy acts/skits, magic acts, jugglers, kazoo players…whatever your special talent may be.

Auditions are not necessary.  Just contact Richard Hall, executive director at the Ohnward Fine Arts Center.  He can be contacted by email at director@ohnwardfineartscenter.com, or by calling 563-652-9815.

Kids will get together Saturday morning, Dec. 1st, at 10 AM to rehearse your act.  Show time will be 3 PM. Come share your talent and help brighten the holidays for other area residents! Parents will be asked to fill out a permission slip on the morning of the show.

 

Attention all lovers of knowledge and trivia.  It is that time of year again to be revving up the lightning fast buzzer fingers and bringing the files of unconventional knowledge to the forefronts of your brains.  Yes, it is time to assemble the infamous MHS Quiz Bowl Team. We will be participating in a competition at Clinton Community College. If you are interested in being part of the Quiz Bowl team please stop in the School Counseling Office and talk to Mrs. DeWulf or email her at adewulf@maquoketaschools.info by Friday, October 26th.

Seniors: Have you ever been interested in being a Volunteer Fire Fighter?  The Maquoketa Fire Dept. is offering a High School Fire Recruit Program to encourage the development & growth of future members to serve our community.  You must be 18 or older (or soon to be 18). Come to the Counseling Office for more information and to pick up the materials.

Student Senate would like to thank the GSTs that participated in pumpkin decorating! Congratulations to the following winners:

1st place: Mrs. Green’s GST

2nd place: Ms. Pargeon’s GST

3rd place: Mrs. Henneman’s GST (1st place in everyone’s hearts)

 

Winter cheer tryouts will be held on Saturday, October 27 from 8-4. This is for basketball cheer and wrestling cheer as well as competition. If you are interested, please stop in room 110 for information sheets. You must attend tryouts or make prior arrangements due to unavoidable conflicts the day of tryouts. Contacting me after the day will not work. (Mrs. Edwards)

 

Congrats to the cross country team on a exciting season. State meet is this Saturday, come support Tyler Meyeres in Ft. Dodge. Be sure to congratulate him on a job well done making State and everyone else on their hard work and efforts!

 

This Week National FFA Convention.  NO Practices

Monday during the no school day FFA will be making lunches for Farmers and anyone who can help please attend.  Starting at 9am and delivering starting at 11:30am. Please let Mr. Lansing know if you can help
