Bailey Ramos
Third graders at Briggs recently collaborated with the University of Iowa to work on the Wellspring Iowa Youth Writing Project. Most of the participating schools were in the Iowa City area. This project was to encourage students to write and to name one of the thirty fish sculptures that are located outside of Hancher Auditorium in Iowa City. There were two Zoom meetings in which each classroom named a fish and wrote a story about the fish together as a class. The students that chose to participate will receive a book with all the class stories in the fall.
Interested students were then able to enter an essay contest along with students from all the other participating schools. Students were asked to describe their own wellspring (a person, place, or thing that inspires them). They also had to include a true story about their wellspring. All the students that wrote essays did a wonderful job and should be proud of themselves for their effort!
A HUGE congratulations goes out to Bailey Ramos in Mrs. Long’s room. She received fifth place in the essay competition! The judges referred to her writing as uplifting. Her essay will be published in the book. Bailey can be very proud of herself for this achievement!
