At the Maquoketa Community School district, we aim to keep parents and other stakeholders informed. Maquoketa schools provides EVERY household that has students in the district with the Patron Newsletter each fall. Please access the required reading material below for more information on school safety procedures. Each school will also have daily announcements that you can access directly from their individual pages.

The Maquoketa Community School District has, and will continue to have in the future, a strong commitment to the principles of affirmative action. It is recognized that the elimination of discrimination is an ongoing process. The District shall maintain a program of affirmative action, which will ensure the provisions of equal employment opportunities for staff and non-discriminatory treatment of staff regardless of race, color, creed, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, national origin, religion, age, gender identity, socio-economic status or disability.
Asbestos is an issue the District has been dealing with for many years. The Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act of 1986 (referred to as AHERA), was enacted by Congress. AHERA was enacted to determine the extent of and develop solutions for any problems schools may have with asbestos. A copy of the asbestos management plan is available for your inspection in our administrative offices during regular office hours. Dan Selzer is our Asbestos Program Manager and is an EPA approved Inspector/Management Planner for Asbestos Control (pending completion of training in progress) and all inquiries regarding the plan should be directed to him. We have been implementing the asbestos management plan. Also we are intent on not only complying with, but also exceeding federal, state and local regulations in this area. We plan on taking whatever steps are necessary to insure that your children and our employees have a healthy, safe environment in which to learn and work.
Under the Family Educational Rights to Privacy Act (FERPA), parents have a right to access, seek to amend, and to have some control over the disclosure of personally identifiable information from their child’s education records. Student education records cannot be released without the consent of the student’s parent(s) unless an exception to FERPA applies. Directory information may be disclosed if the parent has consented to release of directory information. However, if a parent has opted out of directory information being shared, then it may not be shared without an exception.
It is the policy of the Maquoketa Community School District not to discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, gender, disability, religion, creed, age (for employment), marital status (for programs), sexual orientation, gender identity, and socioeconomic status (for programs) in its educational programs and its employment practices.
Section 504 is a federal law which protects the rights of persons with qualifying disabilities. It directs schools receiving federal funding to eliminate discrimination based on disability from all aspects of school operation. As a recipient of federal funds, the Maquoketa Community School District provides students meeting Section 504 eligibility equal physical and academic access to services, programs, and activities as those offered to the general population.
Section 504 has three areas of emphasis: employment; facility and accessibility; and requirements for preschool, elementary, and secondary education programs/activities. Section 504 falls under the responsibility of the general education program.
